The Geological Society of Korea (GSK), which was founded in 1947, is Korea’s academic society and professional body for geology. GSK’s main objectives are academic research on basic and applied geology and the distribution of geological technology to aid in the advancement of the field both domestically and abroad.
GSK supports and promotes academic conferences, field research, special lectures and publishes both the national journal and the international journal as well as various individual volumes. GSK has also undertaken many national projects including a Resource Exploration and Manpower Training program, a Safety Evaluation Project on Radioactive Disposal Facility and a Management and Operation Plan for a Geological Park.
The society became a member of International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) in February, 1973 and has established academic ties with 32 overseas institutions including the United States Geological Survey (USGS).

Journal of the Geological Society of Korea is the official journal of the Geological Society of Korea, launched in 1964. Abbreviated title is ‘J. Geol. Soc. Korea’. It publishes research articles, short notes, technical reports, and reviews in all fields of the geoscience. It is published bimonthly in February, April, June, August, October, and December each year. There is no page charge or article processing charge of author side. The journal also publishes those articles beyond the above scope through the consultation of the editorial board. This journal is indexed in KCI.

Geosciences Journal, founded in 1997, is an international journal which publishes geoscientific research articles in English. This journal is published bimonthly by the Association of Korean Geoscience Societies which is established jointly by The Geological Society of Korea, Korea Society of Economic and Environmental Geology, The Korean Earth Science Society, The Paleontological Society of Korea, The Mineralogical Society of Korea, Korean Society of Engineering Geology, The Korean Society of Petroleum Geology, Korean Society of Soil and Groundwater Environment, The Petrological Society of Korea and Korea Geophysical Society. Geosciences Journal is co-published with Springer from 2008
